TREE PITS

Arboricultural Sensitivity

Councils spend large amounts of money on decorative trees for public space environments. Rockpave™ aims to not only provide a decorative, vandal resistant, easily cleaned tree pit option but to provide the tree specimen with an environment suited to growth and expansion to maintain the councils investment in beautifying public space areas. Rockpave is applied with these principles in mind in a number of different ways, with Melbourne City Council Rockpave™ was applied with a thin layer close to the tree then a specified thickness after this, using rings of aluminium and with the rings eliminated. This same application technique can be expanded to use concentric rings utilising a thin layer closest to the tree then slightly thicker at the next ring then moving to a recommended specified depth to ensure longevity and structural integrity. Using this system allows for an even ring of product to ‘break’ to when the tree expands through normal growth.

Urban tree pits in Wellington prior to and after application of "Rockpave™". Note potential trip hazard at edges, loose stone being removed by pedestrian traffic and consequential cost of replacing this stone regularly.  After the application of "Rockpave™":- no trip hazard, extremely low maintenance and attractive.
